We are pleased to announce that the University of Arizona will make a significant investment in the upcoming academic/fiscal year to increase annual salaries for all benefits-eligible faculty and staff as well as stipends for our graduate assistants.
This is the first institution-wide compensation program we have been able to provide in three years. It is the start of a multi-year salary plan designed to make our compensation regionally and nationally competitive and recognize the quality and contributions of our faculty, staff and graduate assistants. Student leaders and University shared governance organizations asked us to prioritize investment in employees and graduate assistants; this compensation program is aligned with their recommendations.
Increases under this program will be based on clear links between pay and performance, a vital feature of our ability to attract and retain high quality members of our university. All employees who are meeting our performance expectations will receive a modest increase and will also be eligible for an additional increase based on job performance, market-based salary trends, or internal salary equity.
Funding this multi-year program will require us to reallocate funds within colleges, departments and administrative units, and may take priority over investments for other needs. We believe competitive compensation is essential and well worth the internal discipline that will be required.
Clinical faculty in the Colleges of Medicine (Phoenix and Tucson) will participate in the incentive-based compensation plan being implemented throughout Fiscal Year 2017 based on their affiliation with Banner and Banner-University Medical Group.
Additional information and instructions for the September 12, 2016, implementation will be provided in June via colleges or by each senior vice president’s administrative unit. Thank you for your contributions and continued dedication to the University and our mission.
