Gregg Goldman

Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer

Gregg Goldman became Senior Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer for the University of Arizona in January 2015. In this position, Goldman serves as the UA's senior business and financial officer with responsibility including University budgeting, financial services, human resources, real estate, design and construction, business processes and functions, police, and relationships with University-related corporations.

Prior to joining the University, Mr. Goldman was Senior Associate Dean and Chief Financial Officer for the USC Marshall School of Business; Senior Assistant Dean for the UC Irvine Graduate School of management; Director of Finance for the Library system at the University of California, Los Angeles campus and Chief Financial and Operations Officer at various private companies in the Los Angeles area.

He serves as past president on the Board of the Western Association of College and University Business Officers (WACUBO) and also serves as Past Chair for the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO), the preeminent professional associations for higher education business and finance professionals representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 2100 colleges and universities across the country.

Mr. Goldman received his B.S. in Business Administration from Thomas Edison State College and MBA from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Robert Smith

Vice President for University Planning, Design and Operations

Mr. Smith is a 4th generation Arizonan and a U of A graduate with over 35 years’ experience leading private sector design firms and University building programs. He has led $1.5 billion of U of A campus development in the past 17 years, which produced numerous design excellence awards, including Southern Arizona’s 1st National AIA Honor Award.

Mr. Smith is the Past President of the Southern Arizona American Institute of Architects, the current President of the National Association of University Architects, and works closely with Arizona’s various contractor associations. He was recently selected as the Southern Arizona Boy Scouts & Construction Industry “Good Scout” man of the year for 2012.

Mr. Smith is also working with the City of Tucson, Pima County, the City of Phoenix and the Private Sector to expand the University’s off-campus presence into Arizona’s urban centers. He is currently leading the U of A’s facilities and operations units as they navigate today’s challenging times and plan for a promising future.

Allison M. Vaillancourt

Vice President for Business Affairs and Human Resources

Allison M. Vaillancourt, Ph.D. serves as Vice President of Business Affairs & Human Resources. She also holds faculty appointments in the UA School of Government and Public Policy and the Honors College. Under her guidance, the University of Arizona has been nationally recognized for building a community of leaders, creating an inclusive organizational culture, offering award-winning work/life programs, and harnessing the wisdom of faculty, staff, students, and community members to inform policies, programs, and administrative simplicity initiatives. She writes about career and organizational culture issues as a regular Chronicle of Higher Education contributor. 

Dr. Vaillancourt currently serves on the American Research Universities Human Resources Institute board of directors, College and University Professional Association for Human Resources' (CUPA-HR) National Public Policy committee, and Western Association of College and University Business Officers' (WACUBO) Business Management Institute Faculty. She also serves as a leadership advisor to several national organizations. Some of her past leadership roles include serving as national chair of CUPA-HR's national board of directors and past president of the Society for Human Resources Management of Greater Tucson. Her current community engagement includes the Arizona Commission on Judicial Performance Review, Community Foundation of Southern Arizona, Tucson Better Business Bureau Charity Review Board, Tucson Social Venture Partners, and Women’s Foundation of Southern Arizona.

Dr. Vaillancourt received a bachelor’s degree in political science and master’s degree in public policy and administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Ph.D. from the University of Colorado-Denver’s School of Public Affairs. She began her career as a journalist and fundraiser before joining higher education.
